My name is Meda Sandra Orasan. I am 18. I live in Cluj-Napoca, the largest town in the heart of Transylvania, Romania.

I attend The National College “Emil Racovitã” a reputed high school in my native town. Next year I shall be in the 12 th grade, I shall graduate and I shall apply for a place as a student at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy in order to become a physician.

My room belongs to a larger flat, made up of a living room, a dining room, two other bedrooms, several halls, two bathrooms, a kitchen and two balconies. The flat is quite cosy, beautifully furnished and it is situated right in the centre of the town.

The colouring of my room is white and gold yellow. Being the smallest room in the flat, it makes a striking contrast with the rest. I have chosen it because it is quiet and appropriate for study. The window faces the inside yard, a peaceful place full of trees and bushes in bloom all spring long.

There are at least five things that a like most in my “little universe”.

The first is a framed family picture which I keep on my bookcase shelf. The second is a tiny white teddy which shares a basket with two toy Dalmatian dogs. The basket lies on my bed. The third is an old painting that I call “The Whispering Angel”, a souvenir from my great-grandparents. Fourth in rank comes the genuine coral with its white, intricate branches, a recent present for my birthday from some dear friends. Last but not least, two replicas of some Roman coins that I have brought from my trips to England.

But there are also other things that are dear to me : a modern painting with fish -I am a Pisces myself-, “a tree of luck” made of semiprecious stones, my tennis racket and some of my books such as Chambers “Book of Facts”- an essential reference book with 160,000 facts covering 280 fields of interest- or the four UNESCO albums with monuments from all around Europe.

If I were to describe myself I would start by saying that I am the kind of person who tries to combine “being modern” with what is best from tradition.

I like fashionable clothes, driving the car, playing sports (skiing, swimming, tennis), travelling - especially to the sunny beaches of Greece-, I like dancing and good music and I dream of having a successful career as a doctor.

I hate vulgarity, the lack of morals and the pollution of any kind. I am in favour of the important traditional values of family and love.

As for the Internet, the greatest wonder in the history, meant to provide global communication and to reduce distances to zero I think it is has advantages and disadvantages. Nevertheless, it is one of the paradoxes of the modern world. Although population is growing, people become more and more isolated. More and more addicted to the armchair in front of the Internet, people look for friends staying indoors. The lucky ones find them, the rest unfortunately don’t.

But even if they do, friendship is to pass the test of life itself. That cannot be replaced by the virtual world.
